Setting up a Fast, Scalable and Robust WordPress Installation on AWS

The presentation will be focused on how to set up one's own server for managing their Wordpress site. The server will be fast, robust, scalable, and cheap. I will talk about setting up the different aspects of Wordpress installation (RDS, S3, Cloudfront) and how these services help make a more robust environment for your website. I will also talk about server-level security measures that you can implement to the setup and complement them with Wordpress security plugins to create a multi-layer security approach without compromising speed and performance.

The second half of the talk will talk about the costs of implementing this setup, support available and how the future of the internet and Wordpress play into the setup we talked about.

• Set up server using L2MP stack (Linux - Litespeed Server - MariaDB - PHP 7.3)

• Setting up RDS for Database Engine, S3 for Media Content Delivery with Cloudfront CDN.

• Using Memcached (or Redis) for Database caching and how it works.

• Security including built-in mod_security into Litespeed and adding the OWASP v3 Rules and complementing this with security plugins for WordPress.

• Monthly costs for the setup (usually less than shared hosting and ALOT less than managed Wordpress hosting).

• How this setup complements the up and coming technologies for WordPress (Headless, HTTP/3, JSON Databases)

Alex is a Wordpress Developer living in Houston, TX that specializes in developing, hosting and maintaining websites. Before this, he worked in the logistics industry in South America importing machinery and parts in the industrial and agricultural sectors and building and hosting websites as a hobby.
