Prime Time, Dec 27, 2019 | Is Internet A Hurdle For Uttar Pradesh Police To Maintain Law And Order? After months of internet ban in Jammu and Kashmir following the revocation of its special status granted under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, it has now become commonplace for the Uttar Pradesh government as well to ban internet in an attempt to control violent protests. Internet services have been suspended in several districts across Uttar Pradesh over the past week and 21 districts in the state suffered internet black-out on 27 December. Ravish Kumar cites the example of Hong Kong protests and asks how the police there managed to perform their duties without having to block internet access. Communal slurs can be heard being used by the Uttar Pradesh police at the protesters in many videos being circulated online. If internet is a medium for causing communal flare-ups, what measures are required to stop police themselves from being perpetrators of communal discord? We ask on Prime Time. (Audio in Hindi)
