Improved Suhua Highway opens to traffic The improved Suhua Highway opened to traffic on Monday, after nine years of construction. Premier Su Tseng-chang and transport minister Lin Chia-lung attended the opening ceremony of the 38.8-kilometer road connecting Yilan and Hualien. It has to be completed phase by phase. The milestone we’ve reached today is not an end of our efforts, only the completion of a phase. And now, a new one begins.The improved highway cuts travel time between Taipei and Hualien by one hour. And as it becomes easier to get from Yilan to Hualien, more travelers are expected.
