CINCINNATI (WKRC) - If you are not getting enough sleep -- and most of us aren't, according to a new study -- it could be impacting a number of things in your body. The CDC just released a new report that says at least 1 in 3 of us gets less than seven hours of sleep a night. That's the magic number needed for good health.
Chronic sleep deprivation is associated with health issues like obesity, heart disease and high blood pressure, but not getting enough sleep can be due to many things, including a poor diet.
So if you can't sleep well, you may be lacking five nutrients: Zinc and magnesium are two of them. Those are found in many of the fortified cereals and in nuts.
The others include tryptophan and vitamin B6 found in proteins, such as beef and turkey. And if you are not a meat-eater, you cand find these and iron, which is also needed for sleep, in green, leafy vegetables, such as spinach and broccoli.
