How to Sort Numbers By First Digit In Excel

How to Sort Numbers By First Digit In Excel We all sort numbers in excel but have you ever sorted numbers based on first digit in excel? We are about to do that in this Quick Excel Tutorial. I am using Microsoft Excel 2019 for the demonstration. Let's get to it.

Step 1: Name another column right beside your number column naming "Support."
Step 2: Now write =TEXT(A2,0) formula in the first row of your support column. A2 is the starting point of your numbers.
Step 3: Drag and auto fill the formula to the whole column.
Step 4: Select both columns.
Step 5: Now click "DATA" from the ribbon and click on sort
Step 6: Click on sort by drop-down and select "Support" and click ok
Step 7: Now click ok again making sure the second radio button is selected.
Done.

You have successfully sorted numbers based on first digit in excel.
