The Philippine Army will get special training from the US Navy!

The Philippine Army will get special training from the US Navy! Before the year ends, the Philippine Army will receive light weapons, ammunition and military training from the United States Navy through the Office of the Naval International Program (NIPO) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries.

This was one of the issues discussed when the NIPO delegation paid an honorary visit to Army officials at its headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Friday.

Major General Byron Calimag, commander of the Army Support Command, received a NIPO delegation led by its director, Rear Admiral Francis D. Morley.

Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Zagala, a military spokesman, said the cooperation between the PA and NIPO was aimed at increasing the war capability of Philippine troops, especially in fighting anything that could jeopardize the country's sovereignty through additional equipment and training.

"This effort will also support International Defense and Army Security Involvement as part of the command's Defense Mission," Zagala said.

Zagala explained that some equipment that the Army could accept through the NIPO included drone systems, night vision equipment, and communication equipment.

"Before this year is over, PA will also get light weapons, ammunition, individual first aid kits, and night vision devices as well as future training in using new equipment," he added.

During the meeting, Zagala said Morley recognized the activation of the Army Aviation Regiment as a strategic approach to something caused by parties that could damage the country's sovereignty.

Last October 3, 2019, PA activated the "Bagwis" Regiment Aviation Forces (AvnR) at Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija to maintain the current fixed wing aircraft fleet for special flight missions while developing its capabilities in armed reconnaissance, air strikes and air medical evacuations. .

The new flight unit is expected to enable Army troops to become more nimble, lethal and versatile with plans to acquire light attack helicopters, armed reconnaissance helicopters and multi-purpose lifting helicopters.

Meanwhile, Calimag expressed his gratitude to the visiting delegates with the proposed proposal for a joint visual inspection for the TC12 Beach Craft and Whiskey Helicopter in 2020.

"Strengthening our relations with other military colleagues is very important in enhancing our capabilities and further enhancing our military's ability to overcome the enemy and protect the land," Zagala said.
