Roaring Twenties: Paul Biese's Orch. - Teasin', 1922 Paul Biese’s Orchestra – Teasin’, Fox-Trot (Carleton-Biese) Columbia 1922 (USA)

NOTE: The name of tenor saxophonist Paul Biese is virtually unknown today, but in the late teens and early 1920s he was a highly regarded musician and the leader of a popular dance band Paul Biese's Novelty Orchestra (also known as Paul Biese's College Inn Orchestra or Paul Biese and his Edgewater Beach Hotel Orchestra). It was a distinguished Chicagoan white 6-piece orchestra, many recordings were also made by Paul Biese's Trio (Paul Biese on Tenor Sax, Arnold Johnson or Frank Westphal, Piano & Ralph Williams, Banjo with vocals by the singer and banjo player, Frank Crumit).. Biese worked mainly in the stylish Chicago dance venues such as the Marigold Gardens and the Bismarck and Edgewater Beach Hotels, but occasionally worked in New York, where he attracted the interest of the record companies. “Teasin’” gives us a good example of how white Chicago bands sounded at the time, with a highly rhythmic banjo playing adhering closely to the melody line.
