The world of employment changes in 2020. After years of softly, softly approach to IR35 in the private sector, the kid gloves come off and the government will begin to apply the legislation as robustly as it has in the public sector. This means that within the next 18-24 months, organisations will need to revisit the composition of their workforce and the way they manage talent, achieve organisational effectiveness and approach workforce planning. And IR35 is just the most urgent of a number of burning platforms that are forcing employers to reconsider how they attract and engage with their workers (however we define 'workers') as well as the workforce and the culture they will need in future.
Our keynote speaker will be Matthew Taylor, Chief Executive at the RSA. In July 2017, Matthew published the report, Good Work, an independent review into modern employment, commissioned by the UK Prime Minister.
Joining the discussion will be Grahame Russell, CEO of Change Associates, Catherine Hearn, Director of Resourcing and Talent at the BBC, Keith Robson, Interim Chief People Officer at FutureLearn, Debra Lang, Director at Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Tom Read, Chief Digital and information Officer at Ministry of Justice UK with the discussions facilitated by Alex Hall, Head of Customer Development at Michael Page.
A joint research project between Michael Page and Change Associates, combining survey data with interviews and secondary research was conducted over the Summer to understand:
the likely impact of IR35 and other developments on employers and individual talent - and how they are preparing for it
how employers will need to engage with people in the future workplace to make sure they attract and retain the best talent
are widely held assumptions about the different expectations of Millenials and Gen Z valid? Or are we guilty of trying to second guess their motivations?
This is a great opportunity to ask questions and get practical advice in the lead up to the new legislation coming into force and beyond.
