Nice to Chamonix volbiv day 1 (on my Advance Omega XAlps 3)

Nice to Chamonix volbiv day 1 (on my Advance Omega XAlps 3) Monday 29th July 2019. The four of us (Richard, Mincek, Steve and me) had arrived in Nice the day before, and had hoped to start our volbiv from Col de Bleyne, but there was a howling N'ly so we took Nigel's ( - he'd picked us up from the airport) advice and rather than camp near there ready for lighter winds the following day, we headed to St-André-les-Alpes for a more guaranteed get away the following day.

Monday 29th did indeed dawn much less windy and we headed up to take off for about 10.30, however it was a slow start so we didn't get off until 12.20, but once up high it was a pretty easy run up to the Dormeillouse, although we got stuck at Carton for longer than normal. It was a shame Steve dropped out so early on - turned out he was following the wrong orange glider, not Nigel! Oh well, he actually had a pretty easy retrieve from the boonies!

Meanwhile the four of us pressed on past the Pic du Morgon and across the Lac de Serre-Ponçon and onto the foothills of the Ecrins. We had discussed landing at Orcières but as we were going well we decided to press on to our 120km goal at Sanctuaire de Notre-Dame la Salette high above the town or Corps. Nigel, Mincek and Richard didn't make the last crossing and landed in the valley just before Corps, however I made it and landed high just past the Sanctuary. I packed up and climbed 200m to the top of the hill, and what a spot for camping it was too...
