HBA reopens earlier than most schools

HBA reopens earlier than most schools Hawaii Baptist Academy students went back to school Thursday morning, Aug. 1. It was one of Hawaii's earliest school openings.

More than 1,000 arrived after dawn at the Stan Sagert, Dan Kong and Richard Bento campuses.

The youngest came with expressions of excitement and apprehension about what might lie ahead in their classrooms. Accompanied by their parents, they carried books, backpacks, bags, thermoses and lunch boxes.

Just before the first class bell rang the keiki and their parents were able to pose for photos inside two specially designed frames on the lawn. The top and bottom of one read, "Proud To Be An Eagle." Students posing in the other frame held small signs that read, "1st Day of School" and the grades they were entering.

This begins the 71st year for HBA.
