CF Railfanning, his friend Ricky, and I went out on July 20th in search of CSX's newest motive power...and we found one! Brand spanking new Tier 4 EMD SD70ACe-T4 number 8904 leads these trains, along with a veteran SD40-2 for a nice contrast. We chased this train and caught him at four different locations in CSX's 'Bone Valley'. CSX took delivery of ten of these units at the beginning of July, numbered 8900-8909, and they have classed them 'ST70AH'. They will be testing in the Bone Valley in Florida for about a year, before CSX determines their full plans for the units.
Our last stop with 8904 was near Plant City, on an uphill grade. The diesels were working hard here, and I got a slight elevation advantage by standing on an old gate post. At this point that huge thunderstorm was nearly upon us, and the raindrops started falling as soon as the train passed. Though none of it showed up in this video, the lightning and thunder were incredible!
