Fortnite ’s popular Squad feature just got a whole lot bigger. According to a Tuesday-morning tweet from the game’s official Twitter account, parties now support up to 16 players each in modes where large groups are allowed.

“Large Party Support is here,” the announcement tweet reads, “starting today, April 30, you can now have (up to 16) players in your party in any game modes or Limited Time Modes that support more than 4-player squads. This includes Creative Mode. “
In other words, while traditional Squad Battle Royale will remain at four players as is, large-team modes like Food Fight, Endgame and 50v50 will allow up to 16 players to join the same instance and converse with one another. The feature operates just like Fortnite’s existing Squad features, the only thing that’s changed is the number of players that can be added.

The vast majority of Fortnite players will likely to continue to take advantage of smaller groups, but offering support for 16 players seems like it would be very applicable to streamers who can gather up large numbers of fans very quickly. A more traditional use case, however, would be having the chance for large clusters of classmates to join the same lobby.

Large Party features are yet another smart addition to Fortnite as the game’s popularity continues to swell. With the slow trickle of new players still eager to discover what the phenomenon is all about, it makes sense to diversify Fortnite’s party options as much as possible. Especially considering the zeitgeist surrounding the Endgame mode, why not make room for larger groups to give it a try? Hot on the heels of update 8.50, these changes only serve to make that content better.

As for Fortnite’s future, it’s still unclear what this week’s patch will offer. That being said, fans have been keeping an eye on key locations like Tilted Towers and Retail Row that seem prime for destruction as Season 8 nears its end.

Fortnite is available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and mobile.
