There was no reliable or scientific method to dispose of garbage when we stopped dumping garbage on Bluemandel in 2008 and started using Meethotamulla instead.
By 2017 Meethotamulla extended up to 21 acres because there was no solution implemented till then.
The responsibility of handling this garbage dump lies with the ministry of Megapolis and Western Development. 48 meters high, spread over 21 acres garbage dump has reduced to 33 meters and 14 acres by the ministry adopting right methods.
Now the Western Development ministry is building an urban park on this mountain and will be opened in 2020. This is the story of how they construct that wonderful park on a garbage dump.
Our (Smart.lk) gratitude to all those who supported us, especially Mr. Kushan Sameera, media secretary to the ministry of Megapolis and Western Development and the pilot who is transforming a garbage dump to a city park, the project director Mr. Y.A.G.K.Gunathilaka.
