Training Your Pup to Have Positive Associations to The Bath Tub ๐Ÿ› TRAINING POSITIVE ASSOCIATIONS WITH THE BATH TUB ๐Ÿงผ .

If you have a puppy, one very important thing to train then on is having a good feeling about the bath tub. If your puppy is a large breed dog, like Finnegan here, it’s also important to train them to be able to hop in on their own. You don’t want to be having to pick up a 100 lb dog every time they need a bath, right? So think ahead!

- Finnegan got rewarded for entering the bathroom for a bit first. So he didn’t mind being in there. This is an important step! Bathroom area = good (before we worry about the tub).
- We have a rubber mat down inside tub because your dog needs traction in order to jump in. We also don’t want any sliding which can potentially harm their joints or growing bones! - We use the word “tubby” and then signal him to jump in. When he does, we use our reward marker of “yes”, along with praise, and give him a high value reward.
- Then we say “ok” and signal him to jump out of tub, where we have a rug for him to have traction again when he jumps out.
