There are certain things we say to other people in our lives that we need to stop saying. This idea was sparked by the new movie Free Solo, where this amazing rock climber Alex Honnold climbs El Capitan (this crazily steep rock formation in Yosemite) without any ropes or gear. Just him and his skills. It’s intense and an amazing feat of human strength. Now, sorry for the spoilers, but after he completes this climb he is sitting down and the film crew asks him, “so, what’s next for you?” I’m sorry, but this guy just climbed a fucking steep rock without any gear and survived and you’re going to ask him “what’s next?” Now I know they didn’t mean any harm by it, but I found that question to be so infuriating, yet so expected. Our society lives off of the “what’s next” instead of allowing us to enjoy our successes.
