Hoping for more snow; The Summit at Snoqualmie seeing below average snow levels

Hoping for more snow; The Summit at Snoqualmie seeing below average snow levels SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. -- After closing for a day, the Summit at Snoqualmie Resort reopened, Thursday.

However, the resort says the snow pack is below average.

Skiers and snowboarders at the summit were seen taking advantage of the snow, for now.

According to WSDOT, the Snoqualmie area received 99 inches of snow during the entire month of December, 2018.

However, December 2019 brought only 46 inches.

"Compared to last year, we started off the season one day later. We are about one week later than average, " said Karter Riach, Marketing & Sales Director for The Summit at Snoqualmie.

It is all bad news for the ski resort.

People here say they are constantly aware of the lack of snow fall.

The resort was forced to shut down New Year’s Day after rain melted the snow.

Now only portions of the resort are open.

Though, there is plenty of hope things may turn for the better good.

"We take it day by day. It's the snow industry. We just hope the next big snow fall event will bring our snow depths to a solid level." said Riach.

He says mother nature is unpredictable, enough to not tell whether the resort will stay open for the rest of the season.

Forecasters are expecting plenty of snow this weekend.

Many keeping their fingers crossed that mother nature will bring plenty of snow to reopen more slopes.
