Case Study: What causes a limitation in the straight leg raise test - Hint: it's not the hamstrings

This is a clip from a video call that I had with two of my favorite humans.

We talked about a number of topics but this was a useful segment in regard to understanding what can limit your straight leg raise test.

In most cases, the default answer is the hamstrings. I would offer that it's much less frequently the hamstrings that are the limitation than many other causes. Misunderstanding the limitation often results in attempts to change movement via ineffective strategies such as hamstring stretching exercises that have little or no benefit.

You must look at the relationships within the movement system.

Evolving a more effective model of the movement system will lead you toward more effective interventions and better outcomes.
