After 15 seasons, the nighttime hospital-set soap Grey’s Anatomy has become a reliable source of dramatic stories. Yet, some of the most harrowing things in the show’s history have taken place off-screen. From early in the series when Isaiah Washington, who played Dr. Preston Burke, was let go for using a homophobic slur, to more recently when a certain McDreamy doctor passed away, reportedly due to the actor who played him’s clashes with creator Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s has often gotten as much attention for offscreen squabbles as onscreen twists.

In this video, we’re taking a look at the reasons surrounding the exits of 20 former Grey’s Anatomy actors.
