WHILE YOU ARE LOOKING WEST FOR VC FUND YOU SHOULD START LOOKING EAST | HNVLOG

As an African startup, we continue looking west for fundraising for multiple reasons. VC ecosystem in Africa is fragmented from country to country and mostly offer seed amount. So most companies pitch in Europe or the USA for funding; however, I have been noticing a trend that is growing exponentially; Chinese VC funds that are dominating the news lately, and they also very aggressive on the fintech space. I had the chance to meet Opay in Lagos that raised close to 200 MILLION in less than a year to dominate the market. I believe Chinese VC's have a bigger risk appetite than Western investors, but also it has been only 30 years from the time China started its economic revolution, so they understand opportunities from Africa much better.
