The Pulse - Cyber Safety for Children

In this digital era, from the moment children enter the world, they are steeped in a steady stream of digital communication and connection. There's no doubt that digital technologies are bringing huge opportunities for children in terms of learning, education and development, but at the same time, it has has made them more susceptible to harm in the form of bullying, exploitation and abuse. And as children spend more and more time on digital devices, there's growing concern about their exposure to unsafe content and the risks of digital connectivity. Similar concerns were raised in Parliament recently... Members spoke of the need for cyber safety for children, following which Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu suggested formation of a 14-member informal group. The group, which comprises of 14 members from across various political parties will study issues related to pornographic content on internet and social media platforms and then prepare a report after necessary consultations with civil society groups, compulsory emergency responsive teams as well as social media companies.
