“TAKE IT BACK” AFTER HE ACCUSES SAINT LUCIANS OF PARTICIPATING IN PLANNING DOMINICA VIOLENCE The United Workers Party continues to demand that SLP’s First Deputy Political Leader Dr. Hilaire to
retract recent statements suggesting local involvement in planning the unrest leading up to last
week’s general elections in Dominica. Hilaire was addressing a political meeting in Dominica when he
made the comments. Meanwhile Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has congratulated the Dominica
Labour Party on its recent election victory.
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet described the Dominica election proceedings as free and fair. In
congratulating Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on his victory Prime Minister Chastanet
commended his Dominican counterpart for his recovery efforts following hurricane Maria, However
regarding the electoral reform which was at the center of the pre-election controversy Prime
Minister Chastanet confirmed that the matter will be discussed when he meets with his colleagues
in Caucus. However he says he’s happy that Prime Minister Skerrit has made a commitment to
address the matter within 100 days in Office.

Regarding the comments made by First Deputy Leader of the St. Labour Party Dr Ernest Hilaire that
the riots in Dominica were planned in St. Lucia Prime Minister Chastanet says his party was not
involved in Dominica’s election. Given his new position as CARICOM Chairman he chose to adopt a
conservative approach. The United Workers Party has called on Dr. Hilaire to retract this
statement and apologize to the people of Saint Lucia.

The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States Commission also congratulated Prime Minister
Roosevelt Skerrit and the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) on the election victory and return to
Government. The DLP captured 18 of the 21 legislative seats
