Meditation to Reduce Opioid Use

Meditation to Reduce Opioid Use This week we take a look at mind-body therapies to reduce our need for medication in particular Opioids. JAMA published a Meta-Analysis study (A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis) this month. The researchers reviewed evidence from over 60 studies with more than 6000 people looking at a range of therapies including meditation, guided imagery, hypnosis, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

While the results were not large there were discernible benefits in the reduction of opioid use and decrease in pain with mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and clinical hypnosis. Listen in to hear my summary and thoughts on the paper and recommendation of what incremental steps you can take to benefit from this work
