A Permit eats a Spanish Hogfish, 1:2 speed November 10, 2019

A Permit eats a Spanish Hogfish, 1:2 speed November 10, 2019 This is the first time I've seen one fish eat another on the SharkCam. This was a betrayal of trust! The Permits signaled that they were willing to be 'cleaned' of parasites by the young Spanish Hogfish. One, perhaps a youngster who hadn't learned to stay where the Permit couldn't see it well, just got too close and... Gulp!

The camera is underneath Frying Pan Tower, "an offshore light tower built in the early 1960s to provide warning to ships that they were nearing shallow shoals with depths of only 35 to 50 feet". It is off the coast of North Carolina. The light is no longer necessary, but the tower provides shelter and habitat for a wide range of Atlantic fish, sharks, and other marine life. The camera is maintained by a group of dedicated people. It is powered by Explore.org. Without these people, and the owner(s) of the Tower, this video would not be possible. Thank you!
