Language debate:

Language is an important feature, it helps communicate thoughts, ideas, values, and feelings. It also helps in integrating diverse groups of people.

Two aspects of language policy in Indian Constitution: Official languages (Working) and National languages (Schedule 8, 22)

Hindi debate in India: Sole official language. Need to examine this issue at two levels: Nature of Indian polity and nature of social demographics of India

At social level, historically no part of India was never unilingual (anti-sanskriti), inspite of that, historically different dynasties have successfully ruled vast regions of India with its attendant socio-cultural diversity

At political level, the genesis of India is different from the nation-states of Europe. European NS developed as a result of homogenisation, whereas the people of India, in spite of its extreme diversity, opted to be a nation-state by choice.
