When it comes to city building, there is no doubt that everyone has his own approach,
but many unfortunately don't have a clue where even to start.

Today I want to talk about the aspect of building: dense urban areas in a medieval style
And which techniques I currently use in order to build up my city completely solo building

1 Use World edit

No matter what your friend, that is playing for years on the same map says.
Use World Edit.
There is no better way to save time and go big.
now you may ask: but Meddon, I have no clue how world edit works D:

Glad you asked because you can take now pen and paper. You basically need:

// set //copy //rotate //paste //stack

Those can help you build a house in literally in a few minutes
research those on google or click on the Infocard and check out my basic house build with world edit tutorial.
A quick tip: use world edit for basic and or repetitive parts of the building

2. Add comen structures to your build
build the house and add specific structures like chimneys, balconies bridges, tunnels overhangs and more to your build

3. Copy buildings and modify them into new ones
This is huge, and if it's done correctly, can have a big impact. This is kinda controversial, and many avoid that totally because there are concerns that the city gets repetitive and boring.

I agree and disagree.
Why I agree, people that don't go ahead and customize the buildings will encounter the problem of repetitiveness. But I disagree and encourage copying buildings because you don't reinvent the house every time you build a completely new house. Variations of the outside and roof or windows, make it unique enough for people to differentiate buildings from each other. They know the concept of a house and will easily recognize it.

4 outlining groundfloor and hight
start by outlining groundfloor and hight of your building. This will give you a clue about the proportions of your building. Or even go one step back into the future and start with the purpose of the building and layout the inner floor plan and build on that our exterior.

5 build by picture
If you don't have any clue what so ever, and where to start.
get onto Pinterest and lookup your style. Save a bunch of pictures and combine them.
I used it on my recent redesign for Pillager outpost for example and it worked out wonderfull.
