Abe administration must own up to Japan's wartime history: Asahi Shimbun

日아사히 "아베정권, 韓불신 없애려면 과거사 반성 다시 밝혀야"

Amid heightening tensions between Seoul and Tokyo, Japanese media outlets say the Abe administration should better reflect on the country's wartime atrocities... in order to improve their ties.
In an editorial published by Asahi Shimbun on Saturday,... the newspaper pointed to historical issues as the root cause of the current trade spat,... and said Japan made a mistake to engage in economic retaliations.
It added... the Abe administration needs to uphold promises made by previous governments,... and come to terms with Japan's wartime history.
Tokyo Shimbun reported the same day... that the souring of bilateral ties with Seoul could hurt Japan... and that the two sides should resolve the issue through dialogue.
