Joe Biden’s awkward ‘gay waiter’ remark irks crowd at LGBT event

Joe Biden’s awkward ‘gay waiter’ remark irks crowd at LGBT event Joe Biden made an awkward reference to a “gay waiter” while speaking at an event hosted by an LGBT rights advocate in Seattle, a report said Sunday.  The presidential hopeful was referencing public sentiment on gay rights over the course of his career on Saturday when he made the boneheaded comment, according to CNN.  Biden mused that five years ago if someone in a business meeting in Seattle “made fun of a gay waiter” people would have let it go.  This prompted a reaction from the crowd, including one person who shouted: “Not in Seattle!”  Biden continued, saying that if a person made a homophobic joke in 2019, “that person would not be invited back.”  The event was hosted by PR executive Roger Nyhus, a leader in the Seattle gay rights community.  The former vice president also spoke about his visit to the historic Stonewall Inn earlier this month.  “Think of the incredible, physical, moral courage it took to stand up and fight back,” Biden said about the Stonewall riots, which took place 50 years ago this weekend and helped spark the gay rights movement.
