Hi guys and welcome back to my channel on my Peace Corps Thailand experience! This video is very special to me because it is on my town's most important annual tradition: the Wan Kat Duan Gao Festival. It is celebrated every year on June 16 in our town of Kohthaphao, in the district of Ban Tak in Tak province.
As explained in this video, this tradition dates back to the era of the Lanna Kingdom, The Old Kingdom of Northern Thailand. It celebrates and welcomes in the rainy season. It begins with our whole community walking in a large parade that ends at our famous temple Wat Phra Borommatat. At the temple the community pays merit according to Buddhist rituals and eats lunch together. At night it culminates with a large night festival with food, music, and Muay Thai matches. Last year my community honored me by letting me lead the parade with another person, and this year my counterpart insisted on me taking pictures and videos to share with the cultural tradition with friends and family back at home. I hope you enjoy the video, and please like, subscribe, and hit the bell if you do. And let me know what kind of videos you would like to see in the future!
