"Shadow self" is just one of many ways to defuse anxious thoughts by detaching yourself from them and seeing it as a separate entity. The aim isn't to make your shadow self shut up (it might never shut up) but simply recognizing that it only says unhelpful, harmful things, and that they have no value to you. You can hear and acknowledge those things it says, but not listen to them because you know they are simply road blocks!
