Ghat Roads are access routes into the mountainous Western and Eastern Ghats, mountain ranges of the Indian Subcontinent. These roads are remarkable feats of engineering and most were constructed during the British Raj.

Ghat roads were built to connect to the famous Hill Stations established in the mountains for residents to avoid summer heat. They generally served to connect coastal (sea side) areas with the upper region Deccan plateau of the Indian Subcontinent.

According to traffic rule the vehicle climbing up in inclined road is in first priority so downhill driver is worst. The downhill driver should have waited. It is his mistake. Dhimbam Ghat Road : This 14 KMS (8.7 Miles) ghat road located close to Eastern Ghats extends from Bannari to Dhimbam is a part of NH 948 cutting across Sathyamangalam Wildlife Sanctuary. 27 Hairpin bends are there in this ghat section. Dhimbam Ghat Road that connects Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The ghat road is usually crowded with vehicles and often sees accidents.
