In the last video, I said that while we don't know if AMD’s 3800X is the absolute performance king, at least the price would be better by around 80 to 100$ compared to a 9900k. Well, with that possible 15% price cut, the 9900k would drop down to just about 15$ more than AMD's 3800X or 415$. With a price cut like that, Intel could be an interesting choice. Those who already have a Z370 or z390 board and are looking to upgrade their 8th gen CPU’s might consider the 9900k as an option since they would save on motherboard costs. The same goes for mid-range CPU’s like the 9700k which would come in at 320$ compared to 329 of the 3700x.
Intel could definitely stay competitive thanks to some desirable features on their CPU’s like integrated graphics although it is important to note that the KF series from Intel don't have igpu’s anymore.
Personally, I think that AMD’s offerings are still a better option whether you’re upgrading from Intel or just looking for a new system. Let’s say you were to buy a 9900k now at the reduced price. The only possible upgrade path for you would be either a 10 core Comet lake on the next gen IF your motherboard supports it or probably a brand new system down the line. With AMD , not only would you pay a little less right now , but in a year or 2, even though the AM4 socket won't be supported anymore and we might be on the 5th gen of Zen cpu’s, you would still be able to upgrade that CPU up to a 16 core 3950X, and the prices might be better by then.
