Before & After - Dramatic Living Room/Dining Room Makeover!

Before & After - Dramatic Living Room/Dining Room Makeover! Hi Kim Smart with Smart Interiors located in San Diego, California.

My clients hired me to help them with their Living room, Dining Room and entry. When you step into their home this is all one big space. They wanted a soft gray color plate with comfortable clean-lined furniture and a hint of coastal.

Let’s take a look at the Living Room Before. Like many of my clients this furniture was purchased when they first got married and now the kids are grown. So much of this furniture is oversized, dark and mismatched.

Here is the After.

The new furniture is a better scale for the room without sacrificing seating. One of the big requirements from my clients is that the dogs’ had to be able to see out the window. So I designed a half-round storage ottoman to go under the window. The top of the ottoman is covered with a snake skin pleather so it is very durable for the dogs. When the dogs aren’t on it - it allows for more seating.

Before the Dining Room was in another room. The table was placed here so we could see how we liked it. AAAND we liked so much we kept it here.

Here is the After. By moving the dining room to this space it allowed for a much bigger table and more move around room. The lighter furniture is elegant. The clean-lined wainscoting dividing the dining room and living room adds a huge custom feel and character.

This room used to be the dining room. It is right off the kitchen.
Now my client calls it “The Reading Room.” The 4 chairs placed on an X around the coffee table make it perfect for socializing. I call it the campfire affect. The art piece on the wall is an underwater photograph printed on glass. It is stylish and has a smack of coastal.

The entryway is encased in the wainscoting. Wainscoting not only dresses up the walls, but helps with scuffs and dings. The glass blown art installation in the niche is a conversation piece when you step in the front door. I think it looks like jellyfish and sea urchins. The pop of blue is a stand out and the overall composition is striking.

The new furniture, flooring, lighting, accessories and color scheme transformed this home into a serene comfortable gathering place. We also maximized the space by moving the dining room to the largest area.
