How to Get More Phone Storage on iPhone & Android | Delete Apps | Cloud Storage

How to Get More Phone Storage on iPhone & Android | Delete Apps | Cloud Storage We're all great at talking and texting on our smartphones – but no so great at cleaning them.We spoke with tech expert Ken Colburn from Data Doctors who showed us a few smartphone cleaning tips – including how to get more phone storage.

1. How to Get More Phone Storage with Google Photos

Let’s start our smartphone cleaning hacks by kicking those old pics and videos to the curb – or “cloud” – with a handy dandy tool called Google Photos. “Put them in the cloud,” instructs Ken. “Doesn't matter if you have an Android or iPhone – Google Photos will give you unlimited storage space for both your photos and videos." In case you’re wondering, the "cloud" is simply storing your photos offsite. In this case, it’s a Google server. The Google Photos app walks you through the whole process and it's super easy. Both the app and unlimited storage are free for medium resolution pictures suitable for sharing on social media. If you want professional quality resolution, there is a fee based on how much storage space you will need.

2. How to Clear App Data on iPhone & Android

Wanna know how to clear app data on iPhone and Android devices? Then listen up! Our next tip on how to get more phone storage will help you delete all those space-hogging apps and files you rarely use. “If you have an android phone, you can do a very deep cleaning with a free app called CCleaner,” advises Ken. “CCleaner is going to analyze all the little hidden areas on your phone, where unneeded files exist that you probably don't know about." To scrub out your iPhone, Ken recommends using the built-in data management tool. Just open iPhone Storage under Settings and it will list all of your data and apps by size. Then simply delete the ones you rarely use, and voila – you have more space!

3. How to Clean Your Phone

Now that we've cleaned the inside, it's time to get rid of the gunk on the outside of that smartphone. “[Do] a deep clean on your actual phone on the outside – it's kind of a petri dish if you think about it,” insists Ken. According to research published in Time magazine, it is actually 10 times dirtier than a toilet seat. Yikes! Ken recommends using isopropyl alcohol or white vinegar mixed with distilled water to clean your phone. “What you're looking for is a 50/50 mix with distilled water,” instructs Kens. “You want to make sure it is distilled so none of the minerals in tap water scratch your phone." Good to know!
